The Library

The library began operating in 1949. Since its fundation, the library’s collection was specialized in the areas of chemistry and chemical industry. In 1971 a computer-based chemical literature retrieval system was prepared and was based on the magnetic tapes of the Chemical Abstracts Condensates (CAC). During the 1980s, services were further developed. The first online connection to the Dialog database was established in 1982, and it became possible to search among their 150 databases and 60 million records. When the Faculty of Arts was established in 1990, the library was presented with a great challenge in serving their needs. The library began to establish a book collection focused on the humanities. One milestone in the history of the library was the introduction in 1993 of the online integrated library system, ALEPH. Today the library has more softwares for information retrieving: SFX, Metalib and Digitool.
